IE?........ What is it all about?

The UK is making a major move towards energy efficiency with the introduction of new legislation in July 202

This legislation requires that all new motors sold in the UK (with a few exceptions) must meet the IE3 efficiency standard as a minimum. This is a significant step forward in the UK’s commitment to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The IE3 standard is a minimum requirement for motors rated up to 75 kW (2-4-6 pole). This means that all new motors sold in the UK must meet this standard in order to be sold. This requirement is in line with the European Union’s Eco-Design Directive, which sets out minimum energy efficiency requirements for electric motors.

The new legislation is part of the UK government’s commitment to meeting its carbon reduction targets. By making sure that all new motors sold in the UK meet the IE3 standard, the UK will be able to reduce its energy consumption and carbon emissions. This will help the UK to meet its carbon reduction targets and contribute to the global effort to reduce climate change.

In July 2023, further legislation comes into effect making IE4 the minimum standard for motors rated 75-200 kW (2-4-6 pole). This means that all new motors sold in the UK must meet this higher standard in order to be sold. The IE4 standard is more stringent than the IE3 standard, and will help the UK to further reduce its energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The introduction of these new standards is a major step forward in the UK’s commitment to energy efficiency and carbon reduction. By making sure that all new motors sold in the UK meet the IE3 and IE4 standards, the UK will be able to reduce its energy consumption and carbon emissions. This will help the UK to meet its carbon reduction targets and contribute to the global effort to reduce climate change.
